Provenance Spinning School

For the first time this Spring, Provenance held an intimate one-week intensive spinning course in Toronto. It was a big success, with participants brushing up on the basics and trying out angora, alpaca, cotton, dog fur, and silk! If you are considering improving your spinning skills with a range of fibres, get in touch about the next session. Participants should be able to spin a continuous thread on a wheel, spindle, or e-spinner.

Spinning Lessons and Workshops

Spinning Lessons

Do you want to learn to spin? Has it been a while since you did any spinning, but now you want to get back to it? Would you like a lesson on a specific aspect of spinning? Whatever your spinning interest, I would be happy to book a lesson with you.

I teach privately out of my home in Toronto. In one or two lessons new students learn to treadle a spinning wheel, prepare wool roving for spinning, control the amount of fibre and twist as they spin a singles yarn, ply two singles together, and reel off the yarn for finishing. These are the basics. Additional lessons could cover carding wool fleece to prepare it for spinning, colour blending, spinning other fibres, plying more than two singles together, and chain plying.

Spinning lessons: $70 for two hours (including all materials and use of spinning equipment for the lesson)

I have spinning wheels available for rent if you don’t have a wheel. If you do own a spinning wheel but it is not working well, bring it to see me. I can generally trouble-shoot problems and advise you on how to get it behaving properly!
